What Does The Word “LUTANDA” Mean?

Lutanda is a word in local language in Zambia which means “Star”. By simple definition, a star is a body that is seen in the sky at night as distant points of light. A star is also a person who is famous as an actor, singer, actress etc. Further, a star is mainly associated with a lot of good hence our adoption of the name Lutanda.

Our Vision

To build a fully fledged school of modern standards with the view of providing quality education services to the majority underprivileged children of Kalingalinga and the surrounding communities by giving equal opportunities and treating each child with respect regardless of race, creed, colour, sex or ability.

Mission Statement

To be relevant to the community through our commitment to sustaining the provision of quality affordable education services through prudent management of donor funds by applying professional ethics in all areas of our operations and maintaining a motivated and experienced staff.

Why Support the Lutanda Foundation?

The Lutanda Foundation unlike the Lutanda Soccer Academy was formed in January 2010 in Kalingalinga compound of Lusaka Zambia with the purpose of championing the cause for equal opportunities in accessing affordable but decent education to all deserving children. In accordance with the Zambian law, every child has got the right to education but many families fail due to a number of factors and it is these very factors that Lutanda Foundation would like to address.

.

We wish to record here our gratitude to the top management officials of the Lutanda Soccer Academy, our sister organization for exposing the many areas of need through interaction with the soccer students. It was the soccer Academy which first identified the need not only to develop the footballing skills of the under privileged children but also the development of the individuals academically.

In this light plans to introduce a scholarship program whereby each player and a sibling is sponsored to go to school were provoked hence the birth of the Lutanda Foundation. The foundation shall attempt to source and make available Financial and material resources for the effective implementation of the educational program which is the core of its operations. In order to realize this, we have a great team of professionals with wealth of experience in the educational sector at international level led by Mr. Jonathan Moodey of Berkshire School in the United States of America. However, the successful implementation of this program wholly depends on the support of every individual, corporate organizations and well wishers to partner with us. Lutanda Foundation’s view on high levels of illiteracy among the youths in Zambia:

Zambia, in central Africa, is one of the improving economies in the world with a population of approximately 13 million people. It is estimated that 80% of our population are poor and live under US$1 per day with no middle class while the elite 20% of the population enjoy lavish lifestyles and all the luxuries this world can offer. This state of affairs inspires little or no hope for the youths from the poor majority whose families can hardly afford them access decent education, health services and later on shelter. As a result we have very high levels of illiteracy among the youths who in actual sense must be the leaders not of the future but of today. It is also very important to underline the fact that the youth accounts for 60% of Zambia’s general population.

Due to the high cost of living coupled with the uninspiring, hopeless backgrounds of the majority of the young people in Zambia, the youth at very tender age resort to various illegal and life threatening activities. Notably is the gross abuse of substances such as alcohol and drugs which eventually puts their lives at the risk of contracting HIV/AIDS.

It was out of our passionate desire to save an almost lost generation that an initiative called Lutanda Foundation was established as one of the surest methods of reaching out to the youth. The high levels of unemployment not only among the youth but the populace of Zambia at large is the other contributing factor in perpetuating the problems being faced by the majority of the youth in the country. However, this is not to say the government is doing nothing about mitigating these alarming levels of illiteracy but to the contrary the government is doing its best to bring the situation under control and as Lutanda Foundation our role is to supplement these efforts by the government.

This is the more reason why Lutanda Foundation does not claim to be a messiah that can alleviate the problems being faced by the masses but it is determined to provide supplementary support to the government

Through the Lutanda Soccer Academy whose membership stands at 300 children of which the majority are yet to have a feel of a classroom due to a number of reasons ranging from lack of interest to the inability by the families to afford basic school requirements, the Lutanda foundation has a challenge of ensuring these trends are changed and we are duty bound to contribute in our small way by keeping the youths busy with both education and sport. Our strongest point as Lutanda foundation in the attainment of these goals is the availability of a team of leaders with a wealth of knowledge and experience in the management of youth soccer and education programs and together we can!
